Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia on Tuesday congratulated Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Nawaz Sharif on his party’s victory in the May-11 general elections.
In a message on Tuesday, Hasina hoped to work for mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan saying relations between the two countries would get a new shape under his leadership.
She also congratulated the people and the political parties of Pakistan for demonstrating their overwhelming confidence in democracy.
In a separate message, Khaleda said Sharif’s victory “is a strong testimony” of the trust and confidence of the Pakistani people on him.
She hoped the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan would be further strengthened under Sharif’s leadership.
Khaleda hoped to work with him in future as she did in the past to ensure people’s “well being and economic security as well as regional peace and harmony”.

Hasina and Khaleda should also learn some lesson from Pakistan as they congratulate Sharif on his election victory – a lesson on democracy.
