Hasina joins defence Iftar

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined officers of the armed forces at an Iftar meet on Wednesday, while Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia chose not to attend.

Speaker Shirin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, Cabinet members, politicians, and envoys, including those of the US and Russia, were at the function arranged in Hasina’s honour.

The Prime Minister’s defence affairs advisor Maj Gen (rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique stepped forward to greet her when she arrived at Senakunja.

Army chief Gen Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, Navy chief Vice Admiral M Farid Habib, Acting Air Force chief Air Vice Marshal Abu Esrar, and Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Haque were in attendance.

Hasina’s son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed was with her.

A special prayer, seeking peace for Bangladesh and betterment of the armed forces, preceded the Iftar.

Deputy Leader of Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Chief Whip Abdus Shahid were among the prominent guests.

AMA Muhith, Matia Chowdhury, AK Khandker, Syed Ashraful Islam, Dipu Moni, Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, Shahara Khatun, Dilip Barua, Hasan Mahmoud, and Shamsul Haque Tuku, all members of Hasina’s Cabinet were also there.
