Hannan Shah, Sapu, Babu get bail

A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to BNP Standing Committee member ASM Hannan Shah and Swechchhasebak Dal leaders Sharafat Ali Sapu and Shafiul Bari Babu in two separate cases filed with Bhatara and Ramna police stations.

Vacation Judge of the Metropolitan Session Judge Court Humayun Kabir passed the order when defence lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Miah filed separate bail petitions.

However, the leaders of the main opposition BNP and its volunteer wing will have to remain behind the bars as they were shown arrested in other cases.

Hannan Shah was taken on a two-day remand on November 26 in the case filed with Bhatera Police Station for torching a bus after he was arrested on November 25.

He was also shown arrested in two other cases filed with Motijheel Police Station.

On October 26, miscreants torched a bus of ‘Bandhu Paribahan’ in front of Group 4 (S) (Security Agency) in the city’s Baridhara area, a day before the BNP-led 18-party alliance’s two-day hartal.

Later, police filed a case against 19 identified and eight unidentified people with the police station.

Meanwhile, Swechchhsebak Dal general secretary Sharafat Ali Sapu and its organising secretary Shafiul Bari Babu were arrested on November 14.

Later, they were taken on a five-day remand in a case filed with Ramna Police Station and shown arrested in another case.
