Hamza Choudhury is all set to wear the Bangladesh jersey after series of talks and discussions over the years, followed by final approval from FIFA Thursday.
English Premier League club Leicester City’s midfielder expressed elation in a video shared by Bangladesh Football Federation on its facebook page.
“I’m so happy with everything over the line. I can’t wait to be playing for Bangladesh,” said Hamza in the video where he was seen sitting inside a car.
The BFF also said it was delighted to get Hamza on board.
“BFF hopes Hamza Choudhury’s inclusion in country’s football will work as an inspiration for new generation and open the door of probable Bangladesh success in international arena,” said the statement revealed Thursday.
Hamza disclosed his interest to play for Bangladesh a few years ago before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The mutual agreement between Hamza and BFF was reached in February this year regarding the UK-born star featuring for Bangladesh.
He received Bangladesh passport in August this year.
The BFF then started the procedure to obtain No Objection Certificate from the English Football Association, followed by seeking permission from FIFA.
Hamza is going to be the first ever EPL footballer to wear the Red and Green jersey.
