Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan loves playing the media — and keep them guessing.
On Sunday, he kept the fourth estate guessing on who were to join the ‘all-party’ interim cabinet of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
That settled, he pulled another surprise on Monday — without disclosing it.
Bhuiyan said the gazette notifications on the ministers who were sworn in on Monday have been issued.
But those from the existing cabinet who have been given a place in the interim cabinet will find their resignations not accepted by the President.
“So they will remain in the interim cabinet and a gazette notification will be issued on Tuesday,” said Bhuiyan.
Ministers handed down their resignation to the Prime Minister on Nov 11.
Those who will not be in the interim cabinet will have their resignations.
Bhuiyan said after that is done on Tuesday, the portfolios will be allocated to the ministers.
“There may be some last minute changes, though the Prime Minister has already made up her mind,” he said.
But both the gazette notification and the allocation of portfolios are expected.
“That is not all, wait for a third development, that’s on cards tomorrow,” Bhuiyan said, keeping mediapersons guessing.
Deflecting all jabs and probes by the fourth estate, the Cabinet Secretary said, “Please wait until tomorrow. A day is not much.”
Coming as it does amid the sudden decision of the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to meet the President and the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal pushing both parties for an ‘urgent dialogue’, Bhuiyan’s ‘third development’ was good enough to keep mediapersons guessing all night.
