Grassroots sports organiser Mansur passes away

Mansur Ali, renowned for being a grassroots sports organiser, died of brain hemorrhage last night at his house in Dhonia at the age of 52.

He was involved with different sports disciplines such as football, handball, kabaddi, cricket, table tennis, kho kho and formed a sport club, which he named Mansur Sporting Club, after himself. The club participate in lower division leagues of the country.

“We heard from his nephew that Mansur bhai suddenly suffered from convulsion while taking his dinner last night and was immediately taken to the National Hospital in Sadarghat. But the doctor declared him dead and informed family members that he died of brain hemorrhage,” Dhaka Metropolis Football League Committee’s executive Md Masudur Rahman told The Daily Star after attending Mansur’s Namaj-e-Janaza today.

Mansur was laid to rest at Dhonia Sarail Residential graveyard after Zuhr prayers today.

Mansur, a life-time bachelor, focused on six disciplines in his club. He was helped along his journey by sponsors he was close to and established players, who once played for his club at grassroot level.

Mansur’s wandering the Bangabandhu National Stadium area and distributing press releases of his club results to the sports journalists was a usual scenario. He would cordially request journalists to publish the results for the budding players, who would get inspired to see their names on newspapers.
