Awami League general secretary Syed Asharul Islam on Sunday said the Awami League-led Grand Alliance will remain intact and contest the upcoming general election together if the main opposition BNP joins the polls.
“The Grand Alliance will remain intact if BNP joins the election and Jatiya Party may contest the polls independently if the opposition boycotts it,” Ashraf said.
Syed Asharul Islam, also the LGRD Minister, came up with the remarks following a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad at Hasina’s official residence Ganobhaban in the evening.
The meeting, which was followed by dinner, began at about 7.30pm.
JP secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawladar, Presidium members Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, MP and Commerce Minister GM Quader accompanied Ershad during the meeting.
Awami League general secretary Syed ashraful Islam, Presidium Members Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Kazi Zafrullah and Mohamad Nasim, advisory council members Suranjit Sengupta, Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed, PM’s advisers HT Imam and Dr Alauddin Ahmed and, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruk Khan and Environment and Forests Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud were also present.

If the 18 party alliance under BNP’s leadership does participate in the election under Hasina as the prime minister then even if the JP plays its role as the OPPOSITION party in the parliament still it would neither be acceptable either to the masses in the country or the international community.
