Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the government along with people will resist BNP if it tries to create anarchy in the country in the name of movement.
He issued the warning while exchanging Eid greetings with the leaders and activists of Awami League from his constituency Companyganj at the upazila AL office around 11:30am.
Obaidul observed that exploding crackers and bombs, vandalising and torching vehicles and killing people are not part of movement. “If they (BNP) try to create anarchy in the name of movement, we along with the country’s people will resist them.”
He also urged his party men to remain alert in this regard.
Turning to the journeys of people ahead of Eid, the communications boss said people could reach home safely and smoothly this year due to timely repair of roads.
He also assured people that they would return to their workplaces safely and smoothly.
About the criticism over the run-down roads, Obaidul said no roads under the Roads Division are in shabby condition. “The roads which are in a dilapidated condition belong to other departments, especially LGED.”
Earlier, the minister went to the residence of slain Awami League leader Yusuf Ali alias Nishad Selim in the Mazdi town to console his family members.
He also assured the family that the killers will be hunted down and brought to justice.
Selim, finance secretary of the district AL, was slaughtered by miscreants at his village home at Titarkandi in Sadar upazila of Laxmipur on Sunday night.
