Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said Bangladesh is committed to world peace and security and that the country’s stance against terrorism is very clear.
“Our armed forces must move forward keeping this ideal in view,” she said while addressing the graduation ceremony of the Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) at Mirpur Cantonment.
She further said, “Bangladesh firmly believes in peaceful resolution of all bilateral, regional and international disputes across the globe. Bangladesh is committed to international peace and security.”
Hasina said that her government was committed to the development and welfare of the armed forces.
She said that despite limited resources, the government intended to build a strong, efficient and modern armed force within the available resources. “To achieve this goal we have to give importance to modern trainings and exercises.”
She said that the army, along with other law enforcement agencies, played a significant role in the smooth and successful holding of the 10th parliamentary elections.
A total of 188 officers including 100 officers from Bangladesh Army, 23 from Bangladesh Navy, 21 officers from Bangladesh Air Force, and 44 overseas officers from China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kuwait, Liberia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Turkey, USA and Zambia have successfully completed DSCSC course this year.
The Prime Minister greeted the graduates on obtaining the PSC degree saying that the knowledge accumulated through the course would help them in discharging professional responsibilities and facing future challenges.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Commandant of the DSCSC Maj Gen Sajjadul Haque gave the welcome address.
Prime Minister’s Special Envoy and former President HM Ershad, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Prime Minister’s security Advisor Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Naval Chief Vice Admiral Farid Habib, Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari, former Army chief Mahbubur Rahman, former Commerce Minister GM Quader, former Food Minister Abdur Razzak and high civil and military officials were present on the occasion.
