The government has sent 33 senior police officials, including 14 deputy inspector generals (DIGs) and 18 additional DIGs, on forced retirement “in public interest”.
A circular was issued today in this regard by the home ministry, signed by Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury.
The order comes into effect immediately.
The move was made under Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018, which allows the government to retire any public servant after 25 years of service without providing specific justification.
Ministry sources indicated that most of the officers were involved in conducting the controversial 2018 national election in various districts or faced allegations over their role during the July uprising.
The list includes DIGs Molla Nazrul Islam, Saiful Islam, Miraj Uddin Ahmed, Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman, SM Mostaq Ahmed Khan, Jihadul Kabir, Moinul Haque, Elias Sharif, Shyamal Kumar Nath, Zakir Hossain Khan, Shah Abid Hossain, Jamil Hasan, Mahbubur Rahman, and Md Moniruzzaman.
