The government on Tuesday filed petitions seeking stay on the anticipatory bails that granted by the High Court to Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders Abdul Awal Mintoo, MK Anwar and Amanullah Aman in separate cases filed against them on charge of vandalism and arson attacks.
Advocate-on-record Sufia Khatun filed the petitions being instructed from the office of the attorney general, said an official of the office.
The petitions were likely to be moved before the Appellate Division Chamber’s judge on July 21, said the official.
On July 9, the bench of Justice Syed Md Ziaul Karim and Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain granted ad-interim anticipatory bail to Aman in 42 cases, Anwar to nine cases, Tariqul Islam in four cases and Mintoo to one case.
The petition against Tariqul’s bail is under process, said the official.
All the cases were filed against the BNP leaders accusing them of ordering, abetting and instigating unidentified party men to explode crude bombs, vandalise vehicles and set them on fire during the blockade sponsored by BNP-led alliance.
More than 100 people were burnt to death in arson attacks during the January-April countrywide blockade called by BNP-led alliance.
