Govt obstructing BNP’s overhauling process, alleges Fakhrul

Fakhrul

BNP on Monday accused the government of obstructing their party reorganisation process and preparation for waging a decisive movement by arresting their leaders and activists.

“We’re recasting our party as part of our efforts to intensify the movement to restore democracy and establish people’s voting right. Our leaders and activists are being arrested in false cases so that we can’t do it,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Fakhrul came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after
placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder late president Ziaur Rahman along with Jubo Dal leaders at the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, marking the party’s youth wing’s founding anniversary.

The BNP spokesman also alleged, “Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal has been arrested… more worrying is that crude bombs are being blasted by government agents in front of our party office.”

Referring to Saturday’s arrest of Alal and 63 BNP men, the BNP leader said the arrest has exposed the government’s fascist character once again.

He warned that the government will not be able to hinder their party’s overhauling process and preparation for the movement by arresting their party men and resorting to repressive acts.

“We’ll launch the movement at the right time after reorganising our party despite the arrest and torture of the party’s leaders and activists,” Fakhrul told the journalist.

The BNP leader demanded the government immediately release Alal and other arrested party men and withdraw the ‘false’ cases filed against them.

Sought his comment about the acquittal of the seven accused in Padma Bridge graft conspiracy, Fakhrul parried the question.
