‘Govt liable for RAB’

Fakhrul

This comes a day after BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia called for disbanding the elite force in view of the alleged involvement of some RAB officers in the recent abductions and murders in Naryanganj.

“The prime minister and her government will also have to take the responsibility for the killings by RAB. They have failed to use RAB properly,” Fakhrul told a protest rally on Monday.

The force was launched in 2004 during the BNP-led alliance government’s tenure.

Khaleda said RAB should be dissolved since the force had become involved with extra-judicial murders and abductions.

However, ruling Awami League leaders have ruled out disbanding the RAB with its publicity secretary Hasan Mahmud saying Khaleda Zia wants that to happen to help the cause of militancy which RAB has controlled.

Endorsing the party chief, Fakhrul said, “RAB was formed to save people but now they are killing people.

“They are killing people for money like hired killers. So they are needed no more.”

The BNP leader claimed RAB was being used ‘politically’ as evident in the Narayanganj multiple murders.

He said the government should step down taking responsibility of the murders of seven people.

Fakhrul justified the BNP government’s creation of the RAB.

“The BNP formed RAB to eliminate terrorism and militancy. There was no instance that the force was used politically during the time,” the BNP spokesperson said.
