A senior BNP leader has alleged that in the pretext of carrying out development Awami League government is taking commission after escalating cost of various projects.
Speaking at a discussion in Dhaka on Monday BNP Standing Committee member Hannan Shah said, “This government says development precedes democracy. What is development? Building of roads or benefitting those who are in the government?”
Referring to the cost escalation of four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and Gazipur-Mymensingh Highway, the BNP leader said, “Higher ups in the Awami League government are ensuring their own development in the name of development of the country.”He warned that the government would face the consequences for ‘indiscriminate’ filing of cases against BNP chief Khaleda Zia and other leaders of the party, and harassing them.
The discussion was held demanding withdrawal of ‘false cases’ against Khaleda and his son Tarique Rahman and release of party leader Mirza Abbas.
