The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday said that people continued to be killed in traffic accidents as the government failed to check such accidents.
At a briefing at the party central office, BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon also alleged that epidemics of robbery and violence against women were now prevailing in the country like pre-1975 period.
He said the road and transport minister failed to keep his word to ensure safe journey of Eid holidaymakers.
The BNP spokesman alleged that a number of people were being killed in traffic accidents every day, as roads all over the country including capital were in bad shape marked by potholes and transports were being driven recklessly.
He said that several thousand crore of taka were being spent for development of roads but the government had no monitoring on it.
The BNP leader asked the government to take preventive measure against robbery and violence against women alerting the law enforcers.
The party spokesman welcomed the invitation of Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, to BNP’s student wing Chhatra Dal leaders to their national conference scheduled for today.
He said that the matter might put a positive impact on the politics if both sides meant it sincerely.
He mentioned that Chhatra Dal could not carry out organisational activities at educational institutions, particularly at public universities, during the tenure of the incumbents.
He demanded immediate release of Chhatra Dal president Rajib Ahsan, arrested few days ago, to pave the way for his joining the national council session of Chhatra League.
BNP leaders Najim Uddin Alam, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Asadul Karim Shahin, Abdus Salam Azad, Mosharraf Hossain and Rafiq Sikder, among others, were present.
