Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday reiterated the Secondary School Certificate examinations will be held on scheduled despite the BNP-sponsored indefinite blockade.
“Yes, the exams will be held on schedule,” he said after a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
SSC and equivalent exams are set to start on Feb 2 with the participation of over 1.4 million students.
The ongoing BNP-Jamaat transport blockade has left parents and students worried over reaching exam centres.
At least 38 persons have died in violence during the country blockade since Jan 5.
“We are requesting them (BNP), for Allah and humanity, please let our children take the exams safely,” said the minister.
In 2013, the administration was forced to suspend SSC exams of 37 subjects and HSC exams of 41 subjects due to BNP-Jamaat shutdowns.
The same year 17 JSC-JDC exams of and two primary and Ebtedayee exams were postponed and delayed due to shutdowns.
Last year, too, several exams were postponed for the shutdowns.
