BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that the government has created a reign of terror in the country by killing opposition men in its desperate bid to re-establish a one-party rule.
In a statement, he said, “The current illegal regime has turned so desperate to re-establish one-party rule through creating an anarchic and appalling situation in the country by killing opposition leaders and activists not only by their supported terrorists by also by law enforcers.”
The statement was issued condemning the killing of Jubo Dal leader Shakil reportedly by Jubo League and Chhatra League cadres at Gafargaon in Mymensingh on Wednesday.
Fakhrul, the BNP acting secretary general, said the government has riddled people’s democratic and basic rights with bayonet hits to establish its autocracy.
He warned the government that it will not be able to escape public wrath by resorting to killings, forced disappearances and abductions.
The BNP leader claimed that members of the government railway police (GRP) on Thursday handed over Shakil to identified cadres of Jubo League and Chhatra League after his arrest.
Later, the cadres of the two ruling party associate bodies killed him by stabbing and beating mercilessly.
Strongly protesting the murder, Fakhrul demanded the government arrest and mete out punishment to Shakil’s killers immediately.
