Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh President Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chouwdhury on Friday urged the opposition political parties to be united in a bid to restore democracy in the country.
He came with the call at a discussion and doa mahfil organised by the party at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city.
Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh organised the doa commemorating the late national leaders.
Recalling the past history of ruling Awami League, B Chowdhury, also the former President of the country, said the history of the Awami League government is of one-party rule as well as fascism and they are always against democracy. “There’s no people’s security during their rule.”
Terming the current government illegal, he said people had been deprived of their rights to cast votes in 154 seats in the last national election and voters did not cast their vote for the other seats as well.
Regarding the late national leaders, he said even though Awami League speaks about democracy but they do not respect the late leaders. “History can’t be written without Ziaur Rahman, Maulana Bhashani and General Osmani.”
Speaking on the occasion, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said as the government was not elected by the people, gruesome acts of killing and force disappearances are continuing in Narayanganj, Feni and Kalshi.
He hoped that the BNP-led 19-party alliance and Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh would go for a greater movement taking the people against what he said ‘democracy-killing government’.
Secretary-General of Bikalpa Dhara Major (retd) Abdul Mannan presided over the discussion.
