The elected representatives of Grameen Bank (GB) governing body on Monday deplored Finance Minister AMA Muhith’s remark that that the GB directors are not really elected.
A statement issued by GB director Tahasina Khatoon on Monday said, “Recently, at a press conference, the Finance Minister remarked that the process of appointing directors to GB has not been transparent. Dr Yunus picks up the directors himself. We’re surprised by this statement by the honourable Finance Minister.”
Asked why the opinions of GB directors were not taken while framing the new GB rules, the Finance Minister at a press conference in the city on Saturday said, “Why should we take directors’ opinion? They’re picked up by…they’re not really elected.”
The statement issued by GB director Tahasina Khatoon on Monday said the remarks of the Finance Minister reflects his ‘ignorance about the way the election of the GB governing body is held’.
The statement also alleged that the government has decided to introduce the new system of election to the governing body with a motive to ‘destroy’ the bank.
According to a circular issued by the government earlier this month, the Grameen Bank (Election of Director) Rules 2014 has replaced the Grameen Bank (Election of Directors) Rules 1987.
The new rules include provisions that a three-member committee appointed by Bangladesh Bank will oversee the election of nine borrower-directors from the grassroots. The remaining three members of the board, including its chairman, are elected by the government.
The new provisions give a political shape to the Grameen Bank governing body election, Tahasina said in her statement.
She also added that the old system had ensured a fair election to the governing body through the election of representatives at different levels.

Mr MAAL Muhit will remain a black name in history for his sworn enmity to the GB and Dr. Yunus. This is really shameful that a highly respectable and responsible man such as he has been relentlessly after the GB to damage if not destroy it. We are sorry that he has grown and nurtured such a mindset over time. Does he not care that human life is short but his misdeeds are long lasting? He has failed to secure the public banks, recover the plundered money, bring the looters and frauds to justice; but he has been spending his valuable time in chasing GB and Dr. Yunus. How shameful!
Mr. Muhit, a spineless humbug and an utter good-for-nothing fellow is basically a whipping boy of Hasina. His job is to give shape to every bit of evil that the bandit queen Hasina plans.
It is quite clear from Mr. Muhit’s statement that by changing Grameen’s very original and genuinely democratic method of electing borrowers’ representatives at the board with a government controlled process, effort is now being made to politicise and thus Awamize the Bank and eventually, destroy this noble organization.
This government in conjunction with their Indian partner, RAW, is out there to put to ruin every organization that worked,and every individual that made Bangladeshis proud.
This Mr. Muhit truly is a disgusting man.

The point here is to remember that Muhit is only a fawn to make Hasina happy. It is the design of RAW to destroy everything in Bangladesh including GB through their agents. One may recollect the coincidence between Hasina’s return to Bangladesh from self-exile in India and the killing of Ziaur Rahman in 1981; and also the ‘Agartala Conspiracy Case’ in which her father was the main defendant. An analysis of these events will help understand RAW’s role in our part of the world. I would appeal to each and every Bangladeshi to be the vigilant sentry of our hard-earned freedom.
