The BNP has picked its Narayanganj City unit General Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Khan to run for mayor in the Dec 22 polls.
Khan, a former president of the Narayanganj District Bar Association, represents one of the plaintiffs in the cases over the 2014 murder of seven persons, including a senior lawyer and a city councilor.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday after collecting the nomination paper, he said he was ‘hurt’ by the ruling party’s behaviour.
“Though (Sheikh Hasina) is not elected democratically, she is the country’s, meaning everyones’ prime minister.
“The Ganabhaban is her official residence. The prime minister cannot just hold meeting with a specific party’s candidate. It breaches the electoral code of conduct,” said Khan.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader told the media late on Tuesday that Hasina had held a meeting with Ivy and other local leaders where she instructed them to work together for the election.
Returning Officer Nuruzzaman Talikder, however, says he is yet to receive any complaint over the ‘breach of code’ from the mayor aspirants.
“We will look into any complaints once filed. Everything has to be according to the code of conduct,” he told bdnews24.com.
