Onrush of water from hills submerged low-lying areas in Manda upazila of the district on Friday night, causing immense sufferings to thousands of villagers.
Witnesses said homesteads, markets, educational and religious institutions, and warehouses in many areas of the upazila went under water.
Standing crops, including paddy, on hundreds of acres of lands were damaged.
Meanwhile, flood-affected people with their domestic animals have taken shelters at safer places, but are passing their days in miseries for lack of emergency supplies.
The flood protection embankment of Atrai collapsed under the heavy pressure of water aggravating the flood situation. All the rivers running through the district have swelled up further.
In Faridpur, at least 50 villages in four upazilas of the district have gone under water with the increase in water level of the Padma, the Arial Khan and the Madhumati.
Crops on 10,000 hectares of land have been washed away by the rolling floodwaters.
Sources said the water level in the Padma near Faridpur has increased by 13 centimetres in the last 24 hours and the river is now flowing 13 cm above its danger mark.
Besides, erosion by the mighty river has taken a serious turn in different areas of the district due to the rise in its water level.
