A Dhaka court on Sunday framed charges against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a defamation case filed for terming ruling Awami League a “killer party” and its chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a “killer”.

The start date of the trial was fixed by the court to be on October 21.

The comment was made by Fakhrul on August 24, 2014, at a press conference at BNP Nayapaltan headquarters.

The BNP leader, currently on bail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Metropolitan Magistrate Nur Nabi read out the charge to him.

The suit was filed by Nur-e-Alam Siddique, vice-president of Awami Matsyajibi League, a pro-AL organisation, on September 1, 2014, with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.

After Paltan police submitted a report on December 18, the court summoned Fakhrul while another Dhaka court on January 22 issued arrest warrant against him as he did not appear before it.

Fakhrul was arrested in connection with the case on January while released on bail on July 14.
