DAG Slim said the BNP leaders would have to surrender before the court at the end of their bail period. “It will be up to the court then to decide on extensions,” he told bdnews24.com.
It is the same bench which granted BNP leader Mahbubuddin Khokon a six-month bail.
On Jan 16, the court had ordered police not to arrest or harass Fakhrul until police filed their report in three cases.
Amir Khasru, 46 others bailed
Justice Borhanuddin and Justice Kader also granted four weeks’ anticipatory bails to BNP’s Chittagong metropolitan unit chief Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, General Secretary Shahadat Hossain, along with 45 activists of the port city in various cases including arson.
The BNP leaders are accused in four cases filed with Chittagong’s Kotwali, Chawkbazar, Akbar Shah, and EPZ police.
Police had filed the cases over vandalism and arson attacks during the BNP-led 18-Party alliance’s countrywide transport blockade on Nov 27 last year.
‘Don’t harass Mir Nasir’
Meanwhile, the bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Habibul Gani has ordered police not to take arbitrary actions against BNP leader Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin.
The order says Nasir cannot be arrested without taking recourse to proper legal procedures or harassed in any manner.
Barrister Mir Helal and Barrister Nasiruddin Oshim represented Nasir during the hearing.
The same bench on Sunday had issued a similar order for five other BNP leaders including BNP’s Standing Committee members Moudud Ahmed, Rafiqul Islam Mia and MK Anwar.
Nasir, a former State Minister for Civil Aviation and Toursim, was arrested from Chittagong on Nov 28 last year for his alleged involvement in violence during the 18-Party alliance’s nationwide transport blockade.
