Fakhrul: Govt won’t bargain for Teesta water

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed the government will not bargain to get Teesta water as it is not a government for the people.

The BNP spokesperson made the claim in a roadside rally on way of its long march towards Teesta Barrage.

“The government could bargain for the right to get water from India. But it did not do it. We can not expect to get anything from the government,” he said.

This long march is aimed at creating awareness among people about their right, he added.

While addressing the first roadside rally in Kalikoir of Gazipur, Fakhrul called upon India to complete treaties for sharing water of all trans-boundary rivers between the two countries including Teesta.

The BNP leader asked the party leaders and activists to be prepared for democratic movement.

Some hundred leaders and activists of BNP joined the march that started from Azampur, Uttara led by Mirza Fakhrul.

The marchers will stay overnight in Rangpur city and head to the Dalia point in Nilphamari on Wednesday.
