Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demands immediate release of all arrested journalists and reopening of all media outlets closed by government
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday condemned the seal off Bengali daily Inqilab’s press and the arrest of three of its journalists.
He said: “Inqilab’s press was sealed and three of its journalists were arrested because of publishing authentic news about the corruption of the ruling party.”
The BNP spokesperson made the remarks in a statement issued on Friday afternoon.
“The ruling group has tried to hide their misdeeds by snatching the fundamental rights of the people and journalists, having different views,” Fakhrul alleged.
He said: “Previously, the Awami League had shut down all the newspapers excluding only four of its choice. Now, in the same way it is closing the print and electronic media which presents news on the government’s failure and misdeeds.”
Meanwhile, he demanded the immediate release of all arrested journalists and reopening of all the media outlets closed by the government.
