The swearing-in of new cabinet members is the beginning of a journey towards an “autocratic regime,” Mirza Fakhrul claimed in a statement on Sunday.

“Today is a black day for Bangladesh,” BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said. “By swearing-in today, the era of demeaning democracy begins.”

The BNP leader claimed that 95% citizens do not support the newly-formed Awami League government. “Bangladesh has been hurled towards darkness.”

Fakhrul condemned the “democratic and autocratic steps” and demanded immediate resignation of the “illegal government.”

He also called for a fresh polls in participation of all parties under a non-partisan government.

Fakhrul has been issuing statements condemning every move of the Awami League-led government from what is believed “in hiding.”

Most of the top BNP leaders are now in jail, put there during the rule of polls-time government, during anti-elections agitation programmes.

BNP, who boycotted the 10th parliamentary polls on January 5, has announced for continued agitation demanding fresh polls in participation of all parties.
