Execution of some verdicts in this tenure: PM

Verdicts of some war crimes cases would be executed within the tenure of this government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed optimism on Saturday.

“Commencing the trial of war crimes was on our election manifesto. We did it successfully. We hope that the execution of verdicts of some of the war crimes cases will be carried out within the regime of this government,” the prime minister said.

She expressed the hope during the inauguration of a 53MW gas-engine power plant in Ashuganj, reported Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

She also laid the foundation of five power plants in the district during her Saturday’s tour.

The combined generation capacity of the five power plants is over 1,300 megawatt (MW) of electricity.

Taking stance against war crimes trial, BNP is now creating anarchy across the country shaking hands with Hefajat-e Islam, Hasina claimed.

“When we were holding an anti-terrorism rally, she (Khaleda) allowed her son to carry out grenade attack there. We lost 22 people including Ivy Rahman, (Awami League leader and wife of late president Zillur Rahman) in the attack,” she said.

About Hefajat-e Islam’s May 5 post-blockade rally at Shapla Chattar, Hasina posed a question saying how would the people who work for protecting Islam could torch Quran.

“It is the BNP, who in connivance with Hefajat and Jamaat, set fire to Quran,” she said.
