Former Rab official Tareque Sayed Mohammad, one of the accused in Narayanganj seven-murder case, was sent to Dhaka Central Jail from Narayanganj District Jail on Thursday.
A prison van carrying Tareque left the local jail for the Dhaka Central Jail around 10am today, Narayanganj jail official Mintu Mia told UNB.
Tareque in his confessional statement before a Narayanganj court on Wednesday reportedly admitted that he was involved in the abductions and killings of seven people here.
He was taken to the district jail and kept in a separate cell later.
Earlier, former Rab officers Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana confessed to their involvement in the sensational seven murders.
On April 27, Nazrul Islam and his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. Hours into their abduction, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court, Chandan Kumar Sarker, and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.
Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30. Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya on May 1.
Following the seven murders, Shahidul Islam alias Shahid chairman, father-in-law of slain Nazrul Islam, alleged that some Rab men killed Nazrul in exchange of Tk 6 crore from city councillor Nur Hossain and other suspects.
Two former Rab officials — Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad (the then commander of Rab-11) and Maj Arif Hossain — were arrested from Cantonment area in the capital on May 16.
Ex-commander of Special Crime Prevention Company of Rab-11 Lt Commander MM Rana was arrested from the same area the following day.
