Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said on Thursday that everyone in the society is corrupt indirectly as corruption has infiltrated inside ‘our veins’.
Those who are entitled to render services, they are the very persons entangled with corruption, he said.
But, if the general people do not indulge in corruption or if they do not receive services through corrupt means, it will decrease, he said.
Muhith made the remarks while inaugurating a toll-free hotline number of the Anti-Corruption Commission at its media centre in the city.
The hotline number 106 was launched with a view to receiving corruption allegations and it would remain open for eight hours since 9:00am in every working day, an ACC press release said.
The press release added that the commission has trained 50 of its officials to handle the complaint centre.
The commission would not disclose the identity of the graft victims, who would file complaints through telephone or cell phone, the release said.
It is possible to reduce corruption using information technology, said Muhith.
The minister said it might not be possible to curb corruption completely but hoped that the level of corruption would come down in eight to 10 years.
