Ershad urges BNP men to join JP

Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad on Saturday urged the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) leaders and activists to join his party, shunning alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami.

“Jatiya Party is the real nationalist force,” he said speaking as chief guest at the biennial conference of Feni district JP at Mizan Maidan.

Presided over by district JP President Mosharaf Hossain Bhuiyan, the conference was also addressed by JP Secretary General Ziauddin Bablu, Presidium Member and Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud and other leaders.

Ershad said a party (BNP) is threatening to launch a movement. But they are not in the streets, he added.

If the people vote his party to power, he would eliminate terrorism and corruption, said the former President.

He also said Begum Zia was the Prime Minister of the country for two terms, but did nothing for the country. The BNP government created Hawa Bhaban and indulged in corruption, he alleged.

A 71-member committee was formed in the conference with Mosharaf Hossain Bhuiyan as the president.
