Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Wednesday claimed that he did not join the January-5 national election and he was kept confined to hospital forcefully.
“I didn’t join the election…I was kept confined to hospital forcefully,” he told a rally at Chaparhat High School ground in Kaliganj upazila in the afternoon.
The rally was organised marking the joining of several thousands BNP men to Jatiya Party.
Ershad, also a former President, said he was disrespected showing 5,000 votes in his favour in the election from Lalmonirhat-1 constituency. “This was not election. Jatiya Party will prove its popularity if a fair election is held with the participation of all parities in the future.”
He mentioned that his party never took part in any election that was boycotted by other parties, and will stick to the stand in the future, too.
The JP chief also said those elected MPs with Jatiya Party tickets in the national election joined the election ignoring the party decision.
The former military ruler also underscored the need for holding an inclusive election for creating a peaceful environment in the country and urged people to vote for his party in the next election so that people can feel relieved.
Observing that the government could give people nothing but killing and forced disappearance, the Jatiy Party chairman said people are being disappeared while at home and killed when outside. “Peace prevails nowhere in the country. People are now getting burned with the flame of unrest.”
