The former president did not want any personal facilities as the PM’s special envoy
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for appointing him as her special envoy, while volunteering to forgo the perks of the job.
“We have to move forward leaving behind the disgraceful events of the past. The prime minister has taken me along for the journey. I will try my best to uphold that honour,” Ershad said in a statement yesterday.
The former president also stated that he did not want any personal facilities as the PM’s special envoy.
“I do not need a government residence and vehicle. I want to discharge my duties with the facilities I am getting as an MP,” the newly elected lawmaker said.
Ershad said he would try to work wholeheartedly to uphold the country’s image.
“I want to place the democratic mentality and liberal outlook of the people of Bangladesh to the world,” the erstwhile dictator said.
