Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s speccial envoy HM Ershad has demanded arrest of Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddique for his ‘defamatory’ remarks on hajj.

In a statement on Tuesday, Jatiya Party Chairman Ershad demanded Latif Siddique’s immediate arrest for his remarks belittling Islam and hurting the religious sentiment of Muslims.

“I have no words to condemn the defamatory remarks of Latif Siddique against holy hajj, one of the basic pillars of Islam,” the former military ruler said.

The people of Bangladesh, a predominantly Muslim country, will never accept Latif Siddique’s such remarks that hit their religious sentiment, he added.

To hurt religious sentiment is a violation of our constitution, the Jatiya Party chairman also said.

Ershad, also a special envoy to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, announced a protest rally in protest against Latif Siddique’s remarks at 4pm on Wednesday in front of Jatiya Party’s central office at Kakrail in the capital.
