‘It can’t be all-party cabinet sans oppn’
Dhaka, Nov 20 (UNB) – Lone independent MP Mohammad Fazlul Azim in Parliament on Wednesday urged the political leaderships to end all the ‘dramas’ and sought united efforts to help democracy win at the end of the day.
“Now is the time to wake up. It’s time to act. There has been lot of dramas. Time has come to end all the dramas. Let democracy win,” he said taking part in discussion on the ‘Bangladesh Handloom Board Bill-2013.’
Without mentioning any name, Fazlul Azim (Ind-Hatiya) said: “It will not bring about any (positive) result by making provoking speeches… there will be no solution by making provoking remarks.”
“They are all respected persons,” he said without pointing his finger at anybody.
In reply, Textiles and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui, who piloted the bill in the House, said he never instigates anybody.
Criticizing the recently-formed ‘all-party’ polls-time cabinet, Fazlul Azim said: “In appropriate it can’t be considered as all-party cabinet. How it becomes all-party without participation of main opposition. It can be called grand alliance cabinet or reconstituted cabinet.”
He said many have raised question whether the Constitution was violated in forming the cabinet. “I couldn’t find any such provision anywhere (in the constitution).”
The Independent MP said the Constitution is not a bible and it can be amended and expanded anytime. “If necessary, it will be amended for the 16th time, even for the 26th time.”
At this stage, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury interrupted Fazlul Azim and asked him to make his observations on the bill in question.
In reply, Fazlul Azim said: “You’re becoming so unkind on the concluding day.”
“I’m very respectful to all ladies including my wife,” he said when the Speaker took umbrage at Fazlul Azim’s remark.
