Electricity production starts at Payra power plant
Production of electricity has started at the coal-fired Payra thermal power plant in Patuakhali’s Kalapara upazila.
The electricity generated from the plant is added (synchronising) to the national grid around 12noon today, said Mir Mohamad Aslam Uddin, senior information officer of the ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
“The power plant is supplying 100 megawatts of electricity now. The production from the plant will be increased gradually,” Aslam Uddin said.
Construction work for the 1,320-megawatt twin coal-fired power plant, a joint venture between the North-West Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited and China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation, began in 2016.
