Election can’t be resisted thru’ terrorist acts: Hanif

Accusing BNP-Jamaat of conspiring to foil the January-5 polls, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Thursday said it is not possible to resist the election through terrorist activities.

“Terrorist activities have to be stopped if you want a consensus. The polls cannot be thwarted by carrying out terrorist activities. The next parliamentary polls will be held in time. People will foil all the conspiracies to thwart the polls,” he said.

The Awami League leader said this while addressing an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka City unit at its office in the city.

Hanif said they are interested to solve any political problem through discussion, but BNP does not want any solution. “BNP along with Jamaat are carrying out subversive acts to foil the polls.”

About the dismissal of condemned war crimes convict Quader Mollah’s review plea, Hanif said they along with the whole nation are waiting when the verdict will be executed. “The souls of the martyrs of the Liberation War will get peace once the verdict is implemented.”

Hanif went on: “Through the stay of the execution order of Quader Mollah it was proved that the rule of law has been established in the country as anyone can seek justice.”

State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam and city unit general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke at the programme held with city unit acting president MA Aziz in the chair.
