BNP leader Mahatab Uddin Ahmmed Chowdhury Minar, the prime suspect in the murder of Feni Awami League leader Ekramul Haq, has been released on bail.
He walked out of Feni jail after a copy of the High Court’s bail order reached there on Thursday.
Ekram, former Phulgazi Upazila chairman, was killed in a daylight attack on May 20 in Feni town.
His brother filed a case in the day naming Minar as the prime suspect.
Minar was arrested on May 27 in Dhaka and had been kept at the Feni jail since June 4.
He was treated at a Dhaka hospital as his health had deteriorated.
The BNP leader had heart and other ailments.
His lawyer Majbah Uddin Khan said a High Court bench granted his client a six-month interim bail.
Deputy Attorney General Mohammed Selim said the bail was granted on health grounds and the court issued a ruling why Minar should not be granted permanent bail.
“We’ve moved the Chamber Judge against the order,” he said, adding they would try to get the plea heard on Sunday.
