Bangladesh Railway has started issuing advance train tickets for all classes ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
Tickets for travelling between October 11 and October 15 will have to be collected before October 6.
Return tickets for October 18 to October 22 will be available between October 9 and October 13.
Tickets for daily travel are also being sold apart from the advanced tickets.
People thronged the rail stations in Dhaka from the early hours of Tuesday and many were seen waiting in queue.
Each person will be allowed maximum four tickets that are non-refundable.
A technical glitch was reported in the railways server early in the morning which slowed the pace of sale of tickets.
Eid vacation has been cancelled for railway officials.
Special trains will also operate to meet additional passenger pressure, Railway Minister Mazibul Hoque had said on Sept 24.
The Eid-ul-Azha is expected to be celebrated around mid-October.
He had said cargo trains would not operate for five days before the Eid.
Hoque said these trains met accidents often and the decision had been taken to ensure uninterrupted passenger train services.
Md Abu Taher, Director General of Bangladesh Railway, had said nine special trains would operate on various routes from October 13 to October 15 during the Eid — and after the Eid, if needed.
Four special trains will operate on Bhairab-Mymensingh-Kishoreganj route on the Eid day.
The railway is expected to transport 50,000-60,000 passengers daily (seating capacity) ahead of the Eid.
