Eid festivities set to start at daybreak

Eid-Adha

Muslims across the country are all geared up to start the festivities of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most auspicious festivals in the Islamic calendar, at the daybreak on Wednesday.

Joy and celebrations will sweep the country as people mark the Eid with social visits, outings, dining and other leisure pursuits.

Well-off Muslims will sacrifice animals commemorating Hazrat Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah as illustrated by his readiness to give up his beloved son Hazrat Ismail.

Meanwhile, some 60 lakh people left Dhaka city for their respective village homes to celebrate the Eid with their near and dear ones, leaving the city in a holiday mood.

The largest Eid congregation will be held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district. Lakhs of Muslims will offer prayers there seeking divine blessings, peace and progress for the country.

In the capital, the main Eid congregation will be held at the National Eidgah near the High Court at 8:30am. Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Mufti Muhibbullahil Baki Nadvi will lead the prayer.

President Abdul Hamid is expected to offer the Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.

Five Eid congregations will also be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 7:00am, 8:00am, 9:00am, 10:00am and 11:00am.

Like the previous years, arrangements have been made at the National Eidgah and the National Mosque so that women can take part in the Eid prayers alongside their male counterparts.

Eid congregations will be held in all Maidans (open fields), including Armanitola, Dhopkhola, and most of the mosques in the city and elsewhere.

Special diet will be served in hospitals, jails, government child families, Chotomoni Nibash, centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages, Vagrant Welfare and Destitute Welfare centres.
