The Election Commission (EC) has sued Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad in Lalmonirhat for not submitting election expenditure reports in time.
Confirming the information, JaPa Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu told the Dhaka Tribune: “District Returning Officer and also the Deputy Commissioner, Md Habibur Rahman, filed the case with Lalmonirhat Sadar police station on Thursday night.”
Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge HM Mahfuzur Rahman said: “The EC has filed two cases against HM Ershad and JSD candidate Sadequl Islam as they failed to submit election expenditure reports in time. Those cases have been filed under section 74 of Representation Of Peoples Order’s (RPO).”
Earlier on May 18, the EC asked the returning officer to file cases against the two candidates for not submitting the returns of their election expenses.
Ershad was defeated in the Lalmonirhat 1 constituency in the 10th national elections.
