EC plots AL win: BNP

The Election Commission is planning to help the ruling party comfortably win the Union Parishad (UP) elections by cutting down on security at the polling centres, alleges the BNP.

Rizvi-Ahmed

Its Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made this allegation during a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on Friday afternoon.

“We have come to know that the EC wants fewer security personnel at the polling centres. The control has also been slackened, and everyone knows why,” he said.

“The objective of this grand plan is to ensure the victory of the ruling party’s chairman candidates.”

Accusing the EC of partiality, Rizvi said it had a hand in the failure of democracy through a government that “voters did not elect”.

“The forthcoming UP polls will be a blatant display of this unholy nexus.”

He added that this was utter violation of electoral code of conduct.

“Helping the ruling party prevent BNP-nominated candidates from submitting their papers, letting Awami League-backed candidates win without contest, filling up ballot boxes before polling, telling voters their votes have already been cast – EC has made a mockery of the electoral process.”

The EC, Rizvi further alleged, appears to be unmoved by the election-related irregularities reported by the media every day.
