Forty-three more victims of the Rana Plaza disaster have been identified through DNA tests, an official said.

The DNA testing authority at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital yesterday handed the DNA test reports of 43 hitherto unidentified workers to the labour and employment ministry, Labour Secretary Mikail Shipar told the Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier, the DNA laboratory finished testing the genetic material from 157 unidentified victims, out of 322samples that were sent to them for identification. The remaining 122 samples would be identified soon, Mikail said.

The secretary said the names of the identified victims would be disclosed soon to prevent harassment of their families.

The identification reports would be sent to the relevant authorities to process compensation packages for the families, he said.

Surviving family members will get money and other benefits according to an announcement made by the prime minister, he added.

More than 1,135 people died in the Rana Plaza building collapse on April 24. Most of the victims were workers at garment factories housed inside the multi-story building at Savar.

The tragedy is deemed as one of the worst industrial accidents anywhere in the world.
