Hasina phoned Khaleda only to mislead people, says Moudud
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said they will join the dialogue if it is held with the specific agenda of non-party polls-time administration.
“Around 90 percent people want the next election to be held under a non-party government. So, our position is clear that the dialogue must be held on polls-time non-party cabinet,” he told a rally.
As part of its countrywide programme, the BNP-led 18-party alliance arranged the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city protesting the killings and arrests of opposition leaders and activists and repression on them allegedly by law enforcers and ruling party “cadres” since October 25 to October 29, 2013.
From the rally, Fakhrul announced that the 18-party will stage demonstrations at all the upazila headquarters across the country protesting the arrest of opposition leaders and activists.
About the Prime Minister’s phone call to the opposition leader, he said the premier phoned the BNP chief only to mislead people, not to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
Mentioning that the opposition leader told the Prime Minister that she will withdraw the opposition’s all action programmes, including hartal, if the primer accepts the polls-time nonparty government, Fakhrul said Sheikh Hasina did not respond to that.
Voicing dissatisfaction over the telecast of the telephone conversation between the country’s two top leaders, the BNP leader said it was an illegal and offensive act.
The BNP leader urged the Election Commission to refrain from holding lopsided polls. “We want to tell the Commission, don’t confuse people by amending the RPO and the election code of conduct. Keep all these in your pockets until the crisis over the non-party polls-time administration is resolved.”
He warned the commission that people will not forgive them if the election commissioners involve them in any unilateral polls. “You’ll be blacklisted.”
Criticising the government for killing opposition leaders and activists in police firings during the 60-hour hartal that ended at 6pm on Tuesday, Fakhrul said the government does not want to engage in talks though they utter about it. “They’re staging a drama in the name of dialogue under the pressure of people.”
He was critical of Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu for asking the opposition leader either to board on the train of dialogue or to go to Pakistan with Jamaat and Hefajat. “His remark about the Desh Netri is audacious.”
The BNP leader urged the country’s people to take to the streets in the days to come as they did during 60-hours hartal to dislodge this autocratic regime.
Chaired by Dhaka city unit BNP convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka, the rally was addressed, among others, by BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Miah, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman and senior 18-pary leaders.
