The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) will finally take place with CCDM chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed today informing reporters that the tournament is scheduled to begin from May 6. The tournament however will not be taking place in its original 50-over-a-side format as a busy international schedule will not allow for a wide enough window for such an undertaking. Thus, the tournament this time will be played in T20 format.

The news will come as a huge relief for the cricketers in the country who have found going tough during the coronavirus pandemic with no domestic matches taking place. The Dhaka Premier League remains the chief source of income for most cricketers in the domestic circuit and the decision to begin the tournament once more will be welcomed.

Following a meeting with the 12 clubs, CCDM chairman informed of the decision they have taken.

“We have decided to start Dhaka Premier League once more and we have decided to begin from May 6. It’s a difficult situation since the schedule is very tight. It will be a T20 format,” Inam told the media today.

The DPL halted in mid-March last year after the first round of matches following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. All 12 teams had played one match before the league came to a halt.
