Bangladesh and India on Sunday renewed their vow to work together for a stronger engagement settling pending issues through mutual discussions.
Both the neighboring countries expressed their willingness to work and prosper together while celebrating India’s 65th Republic Day here.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith attended the Republic Day reception held at a city hotel as the chief guest hosted by Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran.
Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said the ties between the two countries are based on strong foundations, and expressed his hope that all the issues between the two countries would be resolved through mutual talks and mutual respect.
Pankaj Saran said his country believes in building stronger partnership with the principles of mutual respect, mutual benefit and respect for each other’s sovereignty.
The Indian diplomat reiterated that his country would remain fully committed to resolving all the issues between the two countries through discussions as India considers Bangladesh an important partner.
He also said India wants to see a peaceful, stable and prosperous Bangladesh which is important for the wellbeing and harmony of the region.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Awami League General Secretary and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader, Prime Minister’s Adviser HT Imam, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and senior BNP leaders, including Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, attended the reception.
Meanwhile, senior politicians, business leaders, educationists, cultural personalities, editors, members of the armed forces and the civil society representatives also attended the function.
The celebrations began in the morning at the New Chancery Complex in Baridhara. Pankaj Saran unfurled the Indian national flag at 9 am, followed by the singing of the national anthem.
