Dense fog disrupted ferry services on Shimulia-Kawrakandi and Paturia-Daulatdia routes on river Padma since Friday night.
Operation of ferries resumed on Paturia-Daulatdia route after 11 hours of suspension at 9:00am.BIWTA authorities were forced suspend operation at 10:30pm on Friday.
On Shimulia-Kawrakandi route, operation of ferries remain suspended since 1:00am and was yet to resume.
At Paturia, five ferries Golam Mowala, Kumari, Enayetpuri, Shapla Saluk, and Banalata got stuck in the mid-river due to poor visibility said, Shofiqul Islam manager (commerce) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation.
The authorities decided to halt the ferry service at around 10:30 pm on Friday night to avoid accident and the ferry service resumed when the sky became clear he said.
Meanwhile, around 800 vehicles were stuck on both sides, he said.
At Shimulia ferries could not leave the pontoons despite loading of vehicles due to dense fog.
BIWTC assistant manager (commerce) at Shimulia, Chandra Shekhar, said operation of ferries were suspended as marking points and beacon lamps were not visible due to dense fog.
