The High Court on Monday granted two weeks’ bail to BNP standing committee member MK Anwar in a case filed on charges of instigating communal forces and defaming a Swechchhasebak League leader.
An HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice M Jahangir Hossain passed the order after hearing a bail petition.
On May 7, Swechchhasebak League leader Debashish Biswas filed the case against the BNP leader with the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque issued a warrant for the arrest of MK Anwar on the day.
The BNP policymaker at a press briefing on May 6 said the activists of Swechchhasebak League, led by Debashish Biswas, torched some copies of the holy Quran in the city’s Baitul Mukarram area on May 5 during Hefajat violence.
