The government on Monday signed a Tk 383-crore deal with a Korean consultant consortium for the supervision of the main work of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge and the river training.
The contract was signed between the Bridge Division under the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry and the consortium of seven companies at the Setu Bhaban in the city in the presence of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
Project director of the Padma Bridge Shafiqul Islam and oversees project division team leader of Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) Cho Nan Min inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
The seven companies are Joint Venture of Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC), South Korea (Lead Partner), Pyunghwa Engineering Consultants Ltd, Korea Engineering Consultants Corporation, SUNJIN Engineering & Architecture Co Ltd (SUNJIN), ACE Consultants Ltd (Bangladesh) and Dev Consultants Ltd (DevCon), Bangladesh.
The agreement will be effective for five years, said a Road Transport and Bridges Ministry release.
Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Lee Yun-young, Bridge Division secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam, chief engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Kabir Ahmed and head of local technical evaluation committee Prof Jamilur Reza Chowdhury were present at the deal signing ceremony.
