Chittagong Vikings outplayed Barisal Bulls by 78 runs to wrap-up the Chittagong phase of the 4th Bangladesh Premier League T20 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 186, Barisal scored 107 for all in 18.4 overs with Enamul Haque’s unbeaten stroke of 42 off 37 balls including one boundary and four over boundaries, according to news agency UNB.
Chittagong bowlers dominated over Barisal from the very beginning destroying six batsmen –Dawid Malan, Nadif Chowdhury, Shahriar Nafees, Jeevan Mendis, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Thisara Perera — in a gradual interval for 37/6 in 7.2 overs.
Of them six-wicket Mushfiqur Rahim was the only batsman collected double figure 19 off 14 balls, including two boundaries and one six.
Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi made the first breakthrough in the first delivery of his very first over bowling out Malan at 5/1 in 1.1 over and took the 2nd one in his last ball of the same over conceding 5 runs.
Nabi bagged, finally, captured three wickets for an economic figure of 16-run in three overs.
Enamul Haque and Taijul Islam reduced the loss gape in the tail end building-up a partnership figure of 42 in 5.4 overs in the 8th wicket that carried the team total to 81/8 in 13.5 overs from 39/7 in 8.1 overs, before Taijul was caught by Tamim Iqbal off Shubashis Roy bowling.
Delivering four overs each, Shubashis Roy and Taskin Ahmed captured two wickets apiece for 16 and 20 runs.
Shoaib Malik scored 63 with bat and took one wicket for 15 runs in two overs for Chittagong and was adjudged man of the match.
West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith and Pakistan middle order batsman Shoaib Malik hammered fifties those helped Chittagong Vikings collect 185 for 5 in 20 overs, bating first after winning the toss.
Dwayne Smith fired six boundaries and three over boundaries off 49 balls for 69, while Shoaib Malik added 63 off 30 balls featuring nine boundaries and two sixes.
Shoaib Malik collected 15 runs in the death over, including two boundaries and one six, before being caught by Abu Hider off Rayad Emrit bowling in the innings last ball building up the team total.
In the 3rd pair, Smith and Shoaib Malik stayed for 47 off 5.3 overs that carried the team total to 129/3 in 15.5 overs from 82/2 in 10.2 overs, before the big hitter Smith was caught by Enamul Haque off Thisara Perera.
Chittagong Vikings started their innings with a bit good note as their opening pair between skipper-cum-opener Tamim Iqbal and Dwayne Smith contributed 43 in 5.4 overs, before Tamim was caught by caught by Abu Hider Rony off Kamrul Islam Rabbi’s bowling.
Tamim stayed for run-a-ball 19, hammering two boundaries and one six.
Number-3 batsman Anamul Haque (11 off 13b; 1×4) failed to stay long with Smith, as he was caught by Dawid Malan off Thisara Perera’s bowling at 82/2 in 10.2 overs.
Delivering four overs each, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Thisara Perera bagged two wickets apiece for 29 and 37 runs respectively. Rayad Emrit took one wicket for 41 runs.
Bouncing back from behind after four consecutive defeats, Chittagong secure three successive victories at the ZACS on the way to their collection of eight points from eight outings having four wins and four loses.
Starting their campaign with a 29-run win over all-losers Comilla Victorians in the tournament opener, Chittagong Vikings lost to Rangpur Riders by nine-wicket, Khulna Titans by four-run, Barisal Bulls by seven-wicket and Dhaka Dynamites by 19-run.
Then maintained their winning spree beating Rajshshi kings by 19-run, Comilla Victorinas by six-wicket and Barisal Bulls by 78 runs.
