A Dhaka court has framed charges against 13 accused including Huji leader Mufti Hannan in connection with the blast in a rally of Communist Party of Bangladesh.
Dhaka’s Third Additional Metropolitan Session’s Judge KM Imrul Kayes framed the charges in presence of the accused on Thursday afternoon.
The court also fixed September 14 for opening statement of prosecution witnesses.
The accused claimed themselves innocent and sought justice when Additional Public Prosecutor Assaduzzama Khan read out the charges in front of them.
Eight people were killed and over 50 injured in terrorist attack on a rally of Communist Party of Bangladesh at Paltan Maidan on January 20, 2001.
On November 28, 2013, Investigation Officer Mrinal Kanti Saha, also an inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), submitted the charge sheets before the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court accusing banned Islamist outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami (Huji) for the attack.
